About NorthernPlus

NorthernPlus (northernplus.com) is a Minneapolis-built SaaS company that helps service businesses win high-quality leads and turn them into clients fast. The product captures inbound leads and contacts, instantly qualifies them, and guides them through onboarding with minimal friction. We launched recently; we have paying customers across legal, professional services, and other industries, and we are headquartered in the Minneapolis North Loop. Now we are investing in the experience layer that will carry us through our next stage of growth.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced UI/UX and Creative Lead to define our design foundation and lead a redesign of our app. This is a high-influence role for a senior contractor: You will establish our UI/UX library and design approach, lead the redesign of the product itself, and shape the creative direction that flows into our marketing and go-to-market work. A brand designer is developing our brand identity in parallel, and you will partner closely with them and with the founders.

Our current design system lives entirely in code. We want you to establish a true design source of truth in Figma, mapped to that system, and then raise the bar on every surface: the admin app our customers work in daily, the client-facing experience their customers see, and the emails and documents the platform generates.

Engagement Structure

This is a phased, project-based engagement.

Phase 1 (fixed scope): a UX and UI audit of the current app, definition of our design language and component library in Figma, and redesign direction for our core screens. We are asking candidates to propose a fixed price and timeline for this phase as part of their application. And we’re aiming for a one-month conclusion, depending on the start date.

Phase 2 (ongoing): screen-by-screen redesign execution, design support for new features, and creative direction for marketing. This will be scoped together after Phase 1, if the partnership is a strong fit for both sides, and could run through year end.

What You Will Do

  • Audit the current product experience and identify the highest-impact improvements.
  • Define the visual language, component library, and interaction patterns in Figma, mapped to our existing design tokens.
  • Lead the redesign of core app surfaces: dashboard, contact and intake workflows, settings, and the client-facing intake forms.
  • Set standards for accessibility, responsive behavior, and light/dark themes.
  • Advise on creative execution across marketing and go-to-market materials.
  • Collaborate with founders, our brand designer, and an engineering workflow that moves quickly.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years designing SaaS or B2B web applications, with work you are proud to walk us through
  • Deep design-systems experience: You have built component libraries, not just used them
  • Expert-level Figma, including libraries, variables, and developer handoff
  • Enough fluency with modern front-end concepts (React, Tailwind, design tokens) to spec precisely and review implementation; you will not be expected to write code
  • A strong creative eye that extends beyond product UI into brand and marketing expression
  • Comfort with startup ambiguity and direct collaboration with founders

Logistics

  • Remote, with preference for Twin Cities candidates who can occasionally meet in person in Minneapolis
  • Start: August 2026
  • Phase 1 is fixed price per your proposal; please also include your hourly rate for Phase 2 work
